This is a map of the early, post-colonial southern states showing mountains, rivers, lakes, and towns. Indian tribes are named. Virginia had given up rights to Kentucky and the lands beyond the Ohio River. In present-day Ohio are: “Donation Lands from the Commonwealth of Virginia”, "Ohio Company," Seven Ranges," and "Colonel Simms”. Blocks of land in today's southern Illinois include “Army Lands”, “Wabash Company”, “New Jersey Company”, and “Illinois Company”. A section of northwestern Virginia east of the Ohio River is named “Indiana." Georgia extends to the Mississippi River, sharing land with the Choctaw and Creek tribes. Several Chickasaw and Chactaw towns are named. The short-lived reservation for the Catawba tribe is shown on the border between North and South Carolina. Tennessee is named “Tennessee Government”. Several forts are shown on the Mississippi River. Shows “Ouaquaphenogaw” Swamp along the Georgia-Florida border, now called the Okefenokee Swamp.
